Clean Eating Turkey Meatloaf

Meatloaf is the kind of meal that brings back memories of family dinners and cozy nights at home. However, traditional meatloaf recipes can often be packed with unhealthy ingredients and excess fat. Enter the clean eating turkey meatloaf. By using ground turkey, you’re cutting down on saturated fat while still delivering all the flavors that make meatloaf such a favorite.

In this recipe, feel free to add your personal touch. Incorporating diced onions, bell peppers, or even grated carrots can enhance both the flavor and nutritional value. For those who prefer a little extra richness, consider using a mixture of ground turkey and pork, which can give a nice balance of moisture and taste. If your feeling like your totally beef’ed out, feel free to sub 1/2 ground beef and 1/2 pork instead of the ground turkey. Pair it with a salad or a side of sauteed vegetables.

Bonus, this is an excellent option for meal prepping. You can easily whip up a batch on Sunday and enjoy leftovers throughout the week.

Cleaning Eating Turkey Meatloaf

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp coconut oil or olive oil
  • 3 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1.5 lbs ground turkey*
  • 1/2 cup gluten free panko breadcrumbs
  • 3-4 tbsp ground flaxseed
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp coconut aminos
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened ketchup I like primal kitchen the best!
  • 1/2 tsp salt and pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
  • Grease a 9×5 loaf pan.
  • Melt oil in a saute pan. Cook onion for about 5 minutes until soft, stirring occasionally. Add garlic and cook for another 2 minutes.
  • Place the cooked onion and garlic in a large bowl to cool for 5 minutes.
  • To the bowl with onion mixture, add turkey, breadcrumbs, flax, egg, aminos, ketchup, and salt and pepper. Mix until well combined (option to use hands).
  • Transfer the mixture to a glass loaf baking dish, pressing gently until the loaf is formed.
  • Bake for 50-55 minutes or until cooked completely through.
  • Slice and serve with sauteed veggies!

Notes

** Sub ground turkey for 1/2 lb ground beef and 1/2 lb pork if desired.
