Looking for a tasty snack that satisfies your sweet tooth while also being healthier than the store-bought alternatives? Try these healthy treats! With nutritious ingredients and a few simple swaps, you can enjoy a delightful treat that packs a nutritional punch. Here’s why we’re swapping traditional ingredients for healthier options.
Benefits of Swapping Ingredients
- Store-bought Rice Krispies treats often contain refined sugars, corn syrup and preservatives. By using Dandy’s marshmallows and natural nut butter, you ensure that your treats are free from artificial additives.
- Incorporating flaxseed and hemp seeds boosts the fiber and omega-3 content, making these treats more filling and beneficial for your health.
- Feel free to add your favorite mix-ins, like dark chocolate chips or dried fruits, for a yummy twist.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup butter (or coconut oil for a dairy-free option)
- 4 cups brown rice crisps
- 1 bag Dandy’s marshmallows
- A splash of maple syrup
- 1/4 cup organic almond or peanut butter
- 3 tablespoons ground flaxseed
- 2 tablespoons hemp seeds
Instructions
- Prepare the Pan: Line an 8×8 inch baking dish with parchment paper to facilitate easy removal.
- Melt the Base: In a large saucepan, melt the butter (or coconut oil) over low heat. Add the Dandy’s marshmallows and stir continuously until completely melted and gooey.
- Combine Ingredients: Once melted, remove from heat. Stir in the almond or peanut butter and a splash of maple syrup until combined. Add the flaxseed and hemp seeds, mixing well.
- Add Rice Crisps: Gently fold in the brown rice crisps until fully coated with the marshmallow mixture.
- Press into the Pan: Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Press it down firmly and evenly with a spatula or your hands (using parchment paper to prevent sticking).
- Chill to Set: Place the dish in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes to allow the treats to firm up.
- Cut and Enjoy: Once set, cut into squares or rectangles and enjoy. Store any leftovers in an airtight container for up to a week.
Happy snacking!
